Sparks by Jesse Woods
Who: Jesse Woods from Austin, TX.
What: Jesse Woods has had an amazing summer. After being discovered straight out of his garage in Austin by Neon Indian to cover one of their songs (Mind, Drips), the Austin artist went on a grass roots tour up the west coast as support for Bill Baird’s (Sound Team) new band Sunset. Before he left, he had the Neon Indian cover and the track below recorded, when he got home, an EP was finished. For fans of AA Bondy, Rocky Votolato, Bon Iver, and Townes Van Zandt, look for the EP out on Guns in the Sun. Jesse’s back in the studio this fall with Baird working on the full length.

What: Another track from Chicago’s Houses debut album, which hits stores Oct. 19th on Lefse.

What: New recipients of the coveted iPod commercial, check out NYC duo Chappo‘s track ‘Come Home’. They recently released this song on the Plastique Universe EP, fall in love with their garagey psych-rock. Here’s the ad.
Chosen Seed by Sacred Animals
Who: Sacred Animals from Dublin.
What: Sacred Animals is a solo project from a mystery man born in Wexford, Ireland. He’s planning on revealing himself at a live performance at the Electric Picnic this Saturday, but apparently he’s someone people might know from his previous work in music. From the pic above, I can’t tell. This song comes from his four-song EP (Welcome Home), for fans of Thom Yorke or stripped down Doves b-sides.

Comin’ Through by The War On Drugs
Who: The War On Drugs from Philadelphia.
What: To follow up on their critically acclaimed debut Wagonwheel Blues, The War On Drugs will be releasing Future Weather on October 26th (via Secretly Canadian). Using a unique recording process to blur the edges of what we call American music, hear the result in the endless layers of guitar melody and atmospherics of “Comin’ Through”. Look for them to tour this fall at select dates in the Eastern U.S. including an appearance at Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina September 9.

Julius by Starfucker
Who: Starfucker from Portland, OR.
What: Recent signees to Polyvinyl Record Co, Starfucker will be releasing the alternative single version of ‘Julius’ (below) with the B-side ‘Helium Muffin’ on Oct. 12th. This track touches the dark side of the dance floor, recorded in principal songwriter Joshua Hodges’ bedroom before the band finished the track in the The Dandy Warhols studio with producer Jacob Portrait (Mint Chicks, The Dandy Warhols).

The Modern Men
Who: The Modern Men from both Halifax/Toronto.
What: They are Fionn Chin-Yee, Jonah Bernstein, and Seth Bernstein, there men writing sensual grooves for their unwavering muse – The Modern Woman (from their bio). This track comes from the album ‘The Sensual Sounds Of…’ reminds me of subdued Matt Beringer travelling back in time to write songs for The Breakfast Club.

Packed Our Past by Joe Gil
Who: Joe Gil from LA.
What: Nice surprise in my inbox from up-and-coming singer/songwriter Joe Gil. Over the past year he’s been working on his upcoming release and now is working on a west coast tour to promote his release. The self titled EP was produced by John Ryan of Family Affair Productions, look for a release party September 18 at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles.

In The Stream by S. Carey
Who: S. Carey from Eau Claire, Wisconsin
What: Previously we tipped you to ‘In The Dirt’, now we can move you down the banks to ‘In The Stream’ by S. Carey. Getting his start as drummer for Bon Iver, Sean’s got a great solo record which will be streaming next week on NPR’s Exclusive First Listen. Look for him on the road with the Tallest Man On Earth and the album will be released by Jagjaguwar on August 24th, 2010 in North America and August 30th in the UK.
