Who: The Avett Brothers from North Carolina.
What: Just wanted to post something before I ran out the door. Been razzled since doing corporate taxes all last night and today. But now I can relax, heading downtown to catch a Jays game with some good friends.
This piano ballad is The Avett Brothers first time on the filter, making me think I’ve been missing them forever. Look for this song and others on their forthcoming album due out on Columbia on Sept. 29th, 2009
Song: I and Love and You (from Spinner).

Who: Paul and the Patients from Brooklyn.
What: Since we last wrote about this band in April, Blogspot has had some serious staying power in my musical playlists. Now, I get the option of the original, and the new Nick Seeley remix which seems to have lightened the the darker original, making a super danceable summer banger. They’re still doing local shows in NY, hopefully further outside their hometown soon. Check out their EP (To The Lions), most of which seems to be up on their myspace.
Song: Blogspot (Nick Seeley remix).

Who: Now, Now Every Children from Minneapolis.
What: Doesn’t that title read a little weird? I’ve said it for a while now, Bands, when you’re thinking of band names, stay away from commas. Just some advice. In print is looks confusing and messes up tagging in the blogging world.
But, I was pleasantly surprised by Now, Now Every Children’s track Everyone You Know. From writing sessions after high school marching band practice came basement demos. Today, or soon, we’ll have their debut EP (Cars, out July 9th on Afternoon Records). For fans of lo-fi indie pop or music in the vein of Jealous Girlfriends, catch them on the road supporting the release. Details here.
Song: Everyone You Know.

Who: Memory Tapes from New Jersey.
What: Memory Tapes come from 1 part Memory Cassette and 1 part Weird Tapes. Both are bands I’m not familiar with, but thats how it goes. This is all about discovery.
The single will be released this August on Loog backed with a remix from the Horrors.
Song: Bicycle. A little different from stuff I normally put up here but solid nonetheless.

Who: Emil & Friends from Brawlston, Massachusetts.
What: As promised by Ben from Sweet Touch Records, this remix of Passion Pit’s Sleepyhead is not like the tons of garbage versions of this super popular song. Emil & Friends put a great touch on this (I’m glad they used vocals that allow us to actually hear what they lyrics are!). Enjoy.
Song: Sleepyhead (Passion Pit cover).

Who: Bahamas from Toronto.
What: A taste from the debut from Bahamas, the stage name for multi-instrumentalist Afie Jurvanen. Chances are you’ve heard this guy perform, having contributed to both live and recorded material from Feist, Jason Collett, Hayden and The Stills. The album (named Pink Strat, after Afie’s childhood guitar) hits stores July 21st and catch him on the festival circuit this summer (Winnipeg Folk, Hillside, Wolfe Island). NXNE tip: go see him out at the Nevado Records showcase this friday at Supermarket. Bahamas go on at 10pm.
Song: What’s Worse.

Who: Emmanuel and the Fear from Brooklyn.
What: For fans of Orchestral indie rock, Arcade Fire or Ra Ra Riot, here’s Brooklyn’s 11-piece juggernaut Emmanuel and the Fear. Having toured with bands such as Sufjan Stevens, Spoon and The National, this band are making a name for themselves. Look for their debut 5 song EP and get familiar, they’ll be a pop quiz coming up.
Song: The Rain Becomes The Clouds. This song stops just short of thinking that there’s maybe a little too much going on in there.

Who: Mason Proper from Michigan.
What: Is it too early on a friday to feel like dancing? Here’s Mason Proper’s cover/mashup that might make you see it like I do. Next month this band will be on the road with Stellastarr* and Wild Light in support of their sophomore release Olly Oxen Free. Tour dates below.
Song: Get Innocuous/Love Lockdown (LCD Soundsystem/Kanye West Cover).

Who: New Numbers from Brooklyn.
What: The new project from Josh Abbott and Mike Fadem of The Jealous Girlfriends (who are on a break right now). Holly’s doing her thing, these guys missed the road and wanted to get back out. The songs come from Abbott’s vast collection and were recorded with help from friends Noah Chernin (Sam Champion), Matt Sumrow (The Comas) and Evan Voytas. The debut EP shares the name with the song below (Islands) and was produced with help of Dan Long (Film School, Pela). Catch them on the road with Team B (Kelly from Beirut / Arcade Fire). Who: Zero 7 from London.
What: Not the first single off the upcoming Zero 7 release (Yeah Ghost, Sept. 8th), but our first listen to new works from downtempo UK duo Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker. This track features Eska Mtungwazi, and if the past predicts the future, we’ll see a bunch of collaborations with many unique sounding vocalists.
Song: Everything Up (from The Music Slut).
